Qualified retired law enforcement officers must complete a firearms qualification every 12 months to maintain their LEOSA/HR 218 authorization.
The Nevada qualification is completed under the supervision of an approved instructor. It includes firing from 3, 5 and 7 yards, with a minimum passing score of 70%. After successful completion, the instructor records the score and completes the required qualification documentation.
The retiree then submits the completed certificate, valid identification, retired law enforcement identification and required agency documents to the sheriff’s office. The sheriff’s office determines eligibility and issues the LEOSA/HR 218 qualification card.
